You will know you’re in the tropics when you enter this open-plan family home because of the number, size, colours, scent, and sheer beauty of the our tropical flower arrangements throughout.

Our garden also grows over 500 species of tropical fruits from around the world and you will find a tropical fruit bowl bursting with a selection of whatever is in season. Some of these fruits look weird but they all give you a unique taste sensation.

So you don’t have to buy go the basics before you arrive, we’ll provide you with ground-coffee, fresh milk, sugar, a variety of teas, olive oil, balsalmic vinegar, some dried spices and herbs, salt and pepper, even some pasta and sauce if you’re running late.

In both bathrooms and showers, pamper yourself with your L’Occitane bathroom products.

And because knowing everything in advance leaves nothing to discover, you will also find a couple of surprises.

Open plan living room at The Botanical Ark Retreat
45-inch screen, 160 channels
DVD player & DVD selection

CD player & CD selection
Spacious open-plan
Books, games...

Along with the silky oak timber one-two-three seater sofas with comfy cushions, the red-tulip timber flooring gives a cool, natural feel to the main social area. It’s high ceiling and wide open frontage that overlooks the spacious verandah, water feature, and tropical garden gives a real outdoor-when-you’re-indoor feel. Complete with ceiling fan.

Discreetly placed inside some beautiful furniture is the 45-inch screen (115cm) where you can indulge and watch some of the supplied DVDs or one of about 160 TV channels that feature movies, news and documentaries, sport, special interest, entertainment, kids and family. And if you don’t want to watch it, you can leave those doors closed and you won’t even know it’s there.

But you will probably spend much of your time on the 16-metre long by almost four-metre wide verandah. That, in anyone’s language, is big. And it’s where you are neither indoors nor outdoors. It’s like the shoreline of the home and offers the ultimate in indoor-outdoor living, whether it’s eating a meal and sharing stories around the wooden dining table, having coffee in the comfy chairs around a glass-topped coffee table, day dreaming in the wooden loungers, or snoozing in the hammock.

In the background, you could be listening to the in-house sound system with a CD player that also has an iPod input. You’ll find a wide selection of CDs, with an emphasis on world music.

If you’ve finished your current book, you’re sure to find something to your liking from our selection of non-fiction books, fiction books, or magazines.

The Botanical Ark Retreat garden

Private beach
Board/card games
Water toys

Tropical north Queensland is a warm place and what better way to cool down than a swim. You can dry off and feel that sunshine in the loungers on your own private beach - before jumping in for another swim. Cooking meals outdoors is a Queensland tradition and you’ll find a gas fired barbecue to do just that. When its time to play some games, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied, including the obligatory monopoly, scrabble, and chess, but there’s also less famous but just as much fun games, including Balderdash, Scattergories, Surprise, the intriguingly named Midlife Crisis, plus more.

What communications use to look like - a photo of an old 'wireless' or radio.

Free WiFi
Landline phone

The Botanical Ark Retreat is so quiet and peaceful because it’s tucked away at the end of a valley, snuggling up against the Daintree National Park hills. Therefore, you can get a welcome break from your mobile phone. This is the perfect opportunity where you can tell your kids, your friends, and your family that you really are out of mobile range.

But not out of touch. You still have free WiFi for your laptop so you can upload your TripAdvisor review and boast about how peaceful this place is.

And there’s always the landline phone if you need to talk to the outside.

All these communications are, of course, complimentary. However, you may incur a charge for excessive downloads on the WiFi.
