About The Botanical Ark
Saving the world’s rainforests is a big ask but that’s exactly what The Botanical Ark is helping to do. The Botanical Ark Retreat sits in the grounds of The Botanical Ark. This section is about how and why we created The Botanical Ark, and offering some Botanical Ark history. It has six stories. You can read them in any order but the first five follow a natural sequence.
Alan & Susan’s story
Alan and Susan Carle’s story tells where we originally came from in the USA and our journey that led us to be married and start a family in the Daintree rainforest near Port Douglas, in tropical north Queensland, Australia.
Finding the land
Collecting plants from around the world is the story of how we travelled the world in search of ethnobotanical plants before they are lost forever. Sadly, some we collected are already extinct in their country of origin.
Saving Earth’s rainforests
Saving the world’s rainforests is about why saving rainforests is important for the planet, for humans, and everything else, and how The Botanical Ark is helping that.
Our aspirations is what we want The Botanical Ark to do, now, and after we have gone.
The extra story, Our Travel Tales, share some amusing anecdotes about our adventures while collecting endangered plants.
You can read more about what is growing around The Botanical Ark Retreat in the garden section.
